OVER
100 MILLION CHILDREN, TEENS AND ADULTS WORLDWIDE ARE IN
NEED OF A WHEELCHAIR BUT CANNOT AFFORD ONE.
For each
$75.00 donated, the Wheelchair Foundation will match that
and deliver a wheelchair to a child, teen or adult without
mobility, freedom and often hope. You will receive a
beautiful presentation folder, including a photograph of a
wheelchair recipient, and a certificate indicating the
person's name, age, country and wheelchair number. The
certificate can be personalized as a gift in honor or
memory of a special person in your life, or to mark a
special occasion.
SINCE
MARCH OF 2001 ROTARY CLUBS HAVE SPONSORED OVER
50,000 WHEELCHAIRS TO 60 COUNTRIES, SO FAR!
Don
Gould, Claremont Rotary’s President, has made a
commitment to
the Wheelchair Foundation to raise funds for 330
wheelchairs this year! |

Polio
Plus
It is a
global effort: the eradication of polio from the face of
the earth. Rotary International kicked off the assault in
1985, responding to the challenge given to Rotary by
Albert Sabin. Since that time, with active participation
by Rotary Club members around the world (over 30,000 clubs
with 1.2 million members in 163 countries), through
contributions and volunteer on-site participation in
inoculations, more than $500,000,000 has been
raised to help stamp out one of humanity’s most
insidious diseases!
With
significant international partners – World Health
Organization, UNICEF, and the National Centers for Disease
Control – Rotary is determined to celebrate victory on
its 100th Anniversary in 2005!
Claremont
Rotary Club has been an active participant in this giant
project from its inception in 1985. Now, because of the
current impetus from Rotary International to complete the
Polio Plus challenge, Claremont Rotarians have committed
both personal contributions and proceeds from fund raisers
to continue to do their part in accomplishing this global
effort.
Your
participation as partners with the Rotary Club of
Claremont is deeply appreciated! |

CPR and
First Aid Training
"Together
We Prepare" (Make a Plan. Build a Kit.
Get Trained. Volunteer. Give Blood.) The American
Red Cross program for preparedness and life-saving
information will be the foundation of the
new curriculum for the Rotary Club of Claremont's annual
service project at El Roble Intermediate School. For
over 20 years we have been providing Cardio Pulmonary
Resuscitation (CPR) to 8th graders. This year we
will incorporate the basics of First Aid and other
Preparedness skills, along with CPR, in our program to
better address personal and family emergencies.
The program will be presented on February 17, 18, 19, 2004
in El Roble's new Physical Education Building. All
Rotarians are encouraged to participate. New
materials and training will be provided to Rotarians to
ensure the continued growth and success of our largest
service project.

Events

A
Taste Of Claremont
A Taste of Claremont, our major
fund-raiser, is a food and wine tasting event held annually in
February. It showcases the finest foods and wine in and around
Claremont, as well as wineries from all over California. Local
establishments donate all cuisine and drink, which serves as an
opportunity to advertise their business. In addition, the event
is also funded with the help of major sponsors ranging from
banks to auto dealers to realtors, etc. All non-paying
participants are recognized in our program. There is a one-time
tax-deductible entry fee for all guests. For them this is an
opportunity to gather and socialize over delicious food, great
wine and lively entertainment. Food and wine is endless during
the three-hour event as is the opportunity for community
bonding. Our next event is February 7th, 2004. Come and join us!
